Employment Advertising
Employment Advertising
Employment advertising is one type of advertising that is directed to a very specific audience. While other types of advertising may be directed to a general segment of the population (car buyers, for example) employment advertising is directed to an even narrower audience: those seeking employment in a specific type of company or a specific position. Fortunately employment advertising is one of the less expensive forms of advertising.
Employment advertising is primarily limited to newspaper advertising or to advertisements in business magazines directed to specific industries or professions. Employment advertising in a major business publication might be directed to accountants, production managers or high level executives.
The simplest and least expensive form of employment advertising is in local newspapers where there is a section specifically for employment advertising, divided by categories of positions. Generally these are for general and lower paid positions, often for office workers, sometimes for teachers, nursers and specialized workers. This employment advertising is paid for by the word. If a position warrants special notice or is a higher paid position, an employment ad which is boxed and with bold type may stand out from others thus getting more attention that surrounding employment advertising.
Employment advertising in newspapers may also include large display ads in the business section of the newspaper. This level of employment advertising is usually directed to company executives anywhere from vice president to general manager levels, and to specific professionals. This employment advertising is considerably more expensive than the small box ads in the general employment advertising section. Display advertising warrants the expense of such employment advertising when the position to which the employment advertising is directed is important and high paid. Such ads usually describe the duties of the prospective employee, and also are quite specific about the qualifications necessary to secure the position.
Display advertising in business publications is the most expensive type of employment advertising, and is always directed to professionals and management personnel, usually in a specific industry. Usually only professionals will be reading the magazine, and this level of employee will be sought through employment advertising in such magazines. While employment advertising in most business publications will be directed to executives, such employment advertising might also include office managemen personnel and even executive assistants (once referred to as secretaries) to top management. Here also the employment advertising would specify the skills required, usually specifying advanced computer skills.
