Amazingly enough it was not so long ago that the internet did not exist. Business was conducted by other means and stores were all made of brick and mortar. If people wanted to communicate then, they a had to pick up the phone or actually go visit someone at their office. If people wanted to buy something they had to, for the most part, go down to the store and shop for what they wanted in person, and then often they actually paid for it in cash and carried it home themselves. Communications is an internet business. Retail is an internet business. Wholesale is an internet business. Banking is an internet business. Business to business is an internet business. Even fraud is now an internet business. There is no industry that isn't at least in part an internet business. And some businesses are strictly internet businesses. And internet business has a lot of advantages over a traditional non internet business. With an internet business, much of your operation can be automated which can make it easier for your customers and can cut down on the number of employees you need.

An internet business can be much less expensive to set up than a traditional non internet business. You don't need to invest in real estate with an internet business. With an internet business you don't need to rent or build a building unless you need to stock or ship large quantities of goods. But with an internet business, you may not even need to stock any merchandise and just use a real-time, on demand inventory system and not have to order any product until it is sold. With an internet business you may not even need to shift any merchandise as you can have everything drop shipped to the consumer direct from manufacturers, saving you the huge investment of facilities and personnel that warehousing and shipping facilities require.

There many types of Internet businesses. You can start up an Internet business for just the cost of a Web site or you can invest millions in an Internet business. You can work alone on your Internet business or involve a cast of thousands. It all depends on the type of Internet business you want and what your expectations are from your Internet business.
