The big businesses get a lot of attention, probably because they involve so much money and so many people in each business enterprise, but it is small business that really drives the world economy. Small business is the backbone of the world economy. Small business involves more people in total than the huge multinationals and small business does it a few people at a time. Small business is considered small because each business accounts for such a small amount of money and people, but taken in aggregate, small business is truly big business.
There is really no end to the numbers and types of small businesses you can get into. Almost anything done by a big business can be done by a small business and sometimes, much better too. A small business can react to its customers’ needs and wants much more quickly than a big business. A small business can react to changes in the marketplace more rapidly too. A small business is usually more in touch with its customers and therefore, a small business is usually more responsive to its customers and better clued in to its marketplace.
Small businesses are springing up all the time to fulfill people’s needs. Since a small business requires much less capital to start up than a big business, a small business can be started to meet even the most marginal of needs. A small business doesn’t need a huge market to survive so a small business can exist in the narrowest of niches. But a small business is usually working with a pretty thin profit margin and a small business usually doesn’t have the cash reserves to weather a long down turn in their business, so small businesses come and go at a pretty high rate.
Many people start a small business in their spare time so they are not relying on it for their sole support. You can start a small business for very little capital so a lot of people do it. Your small business could be an extension of a hobby you enjoy so your small business can be a job you really enjoy working at. If you start a small business from an existing hobby, then you will probably already have most of the equipment that you need for your small business. This can make starting up your small business pretty affordable.
